So far, I have gotten up to the part where there is another reaping where Katniss is chosen once again to play in the new games a lot of the districts are rebelling after the last game because of all the mess it made with two winners. But there are a lot of people who believe in Katniss and are on her side with the "mockingjay" sign. The quote I have chosen from the section I've read so far is," ...and I play along so as not to destroy their hopes."(149) Where this part is written, this is where Twill and Bonnie from district 8 found Katniss and believed that there is a District 13, Both of the women are desperate and Katniss didn't want to destroy their hope by telling them there might not be a district 13, so she helps them. In a lot of books and stories that I have read in my life, there are always going to be people desperate for the little faith that they have for something so unrealistic, and there's always someone who either crushes that or builds it up. And i feel that it is the right thing to do, to just give them that faith so they can try harder and be better. In life, there are people who hurt you and put you down but even through all of that you hope for the best in them, that there is still a little part inside of them that is good. There are a bunch of people in the world who have hope in things that slightly have a chance of existing. Every time the economy starts dropping, every person on the universe hopes for the best. Like a raise in the work pay, but most of the time it does not happen, but in the end you still hope for it anyways. People hope for things that might not exist just because they do. They hope that there is some greater power, also known as God, to be there for them because without him they would have no hope in the human race. Without the knowledge of even knowing if there is a greater power of not, people all around the world believe in him like he will always be there to save you even if you are in harm. People just have hope, and this quote reminded me of that. Reminded me that everyone has crazy hopes, and I believe that with those hopes and wishes and have 1% chance of happening, you should never bring them down until they don't believe because it is just wrong to let someone feel like that, you loose your probity.

Book: Catching Fire

           The quote that stood out the most to me was" I will have to be forever in love with Peeta" (44) this quote has its importance with the novel because she will have no choice in who she can live her future with. Although gale is in the back of her mind, she knows that in the end she has to be with Peeta for her loved ones to not be dead. The universal meaning of this is that it kind of connects to arranged marriages. In order to make your parents happy, in the olden days, you would have to marry the person they choose for you. And because you are their children you have no say whatsoever, or else they are going to disown you. All in all, the meaning of this is that in life you have to make choices whether you like it or not because its the best thing for the people surrounding you. Sometimes you have to be selfless to save others even if you hurt some people, as long as they are not in as much hurt as they would be in if you were selfish and chose your own way. This quote really reminds me of the novel Joy Luck Club because of how the girl in the novel had to marry a rich boy for her family's sake but because she was smart enough to derive a plan that wouldn't hurt the people she loved, she was able to escape. Knowing that the girl in the novel was able to escape, I have hope that Katniss will be able to live her life and explore without being threatened by the Capitol. An example in my life of this quote is having to go your separate ways with your loved one to make their life less miserable because you love them that much.sometimes the person you love won't love you back and he feels for somebody else, thats when you become selfless and let that person go to be happy. This quote reminds me to just be selfless sometimes because other people deserve more happiness than you do. But i do believe that there is good karma, and once you become selfless happiness will come to you. So, I hope that by the end of this novel Katniss will be able to figure things out peacefully and happily.

4th Book Group Letter

Dear Mr. Seal,

          I, Christine Tong, am currently reading a novel called The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Honestly, I'd like to think that this could be one of the best novels I've read out of all the books I've read in my lifetime. To start off, i do not think that reading in book groups changed anything for a benefit. The only thing I like about having a group is being able to have other people in the room read the book you're reading and we can have the same feeling on how great the book is because right now we all enjoy the book very much. I did not enjoy not having the same taste in books and we did not really connect with each other. My book group is always on different levels and sometimes we don't understand each other. Unfortunately, I have not read any of my member's group letters because I never got their URLs but we are working on that! My experience with this book gave me a larger idea of what to read. Usually, I tend to lean towards romance novels because I'm a girl and I like that stuff. When picking up this book, I have already heard so much good things about it and sicne I had two guys in my group I decided to read something that sounds good and that my group members would enjoy, which they do."I want to show them that I'm more than just a piece in their Games," was said by Peeta and this sums up the story because The Hunger Games usually consist of people just trying to fight to survive but in the story the new year of hunger games changes with two winners at the end and other districts helping other districts. this quote shows how that did happen, not exactly the way he planned but he changed the thinking of the game and the people who played it.

3rd Book Group Letter

Hello fellow reader, my name is Christine Tong and I'm reading The Hunger Games. I will be speaking in part of Katniss from this novel written by Suzanne Collins. To start off, I do not like any of my actions in this novel! If only I listened to Haymitch, this is why he probably hates me and likes Peeta more. I wish I ran to the nearest body of water instead of that rabbit or I wouldn't be as thirsty as i am now. surely, Peeta is doing fine with those Career kids who are just trying to take advantage of him. But I have to be strong, for my family, my mom, and Prim. Over the bad things I would have to say that I appreciated being able to grab the backpack or else i would not have been this far into the games. I also like the fact that i was smart enough to climb the tree and hit the tracker jacker nest killing two of the career kids. This is because it made the game one plus easier for me to win. if I ever begin to start dieing in this novel, i would like you all to remember to take care of my family. don't look at me as some girl who failed but the girl who tried survived to try and keep her family alive. I would have to say, from a reader's point of view that I am proud of this story because of how courageous I was for my family by stepping up to volunteer to take my sister's place in the games. i just need to survive for them...I miss them but I can't think about them now or it'll be too late. I just hope from the past things i've done wrong in this game to just try to remember to never give up, keep  running, and keep yourself hydrated with a little water and food. Oh no..I hear footsteps, i have to go now.

2nd Book Group Letter

Dear Suzanne Collins,
             I would like to start off this letter by saying that you are an amazing writer that keeps their readers begging for more. Your stories are so intriguing and as weird as it may sounds, I'm not the type of person to like books filled with actions. I am the type of girl who just adores books that are romantic or a book that makes you cry. But for the book The Hunger Games, it was something else. It's one of those book that anybody can read and everybody should read. So, to start off, my question for you is how did you come up with the idea of writing a book like this? All those futuristic stories I've ever touched in my life, have always been about living in space or riding hovercrafts. So how did you come up with an idea, a mind, so different from the rest? I would like to really know the answer because I believe it might help me think outside the box. It might help me be more original and creative, be something that no one is or do something no one has ever done. Katniss is a main character who I enjoy very much because of all her spunk and charisma. She is so brave for fighting in the hunger games for all those girls out there to survive. And to volunteer was just another plus, to why I liked her even more. Usually, when I pick up a book and the first few pages bore me I would not turn a page. But for this book, you started it off in a way that caught my eye, and each page just keeps getting better. I've seen that most books start off okay, the middle gets a lot better, and it ends alright. I really think that this book might just be incredible throughout the whole story. The one part in the story I wish hadn't happened would be the part where Prim's name got picked because if her name wasn't chosen then Katniss wouldn't have to fight. But in a sense, I'm also glad she was chosen or else this story wouldn't be as interesting. A question this novel forced me to ask myself was would i do the same for someone i loved. Would i risk my life to save my little brother or to feed my family? I'm indecisive right now, but if the time has to come I guess that's when we'll know.

1st Book Group Letter

Hi, I'm Christine from your period five class. The book we've been reading so far is pretty interesting. Usually for stories, the good part is always the middle and the rest is okay. But for this book in particular, the book starts off very well and it catches the reader, and it just keeps getting better. So far, what has happened is that they are getting ready for the reaping, which is where they choose a kid from each district to go play in the hunger games until death. Katniss is the main character, and her little sister was chosen for the reaping, but Katniss volunteers to take her place. Then after, it just goes into which boy is chosen, which is Peeta. And then the intro to before they get into the games to where they finally step onto Capitol. My favorite character is going to have to be Katniss because it's a very big thing to step up for your sister in a life threatening situation. My least favorite character is Katniss's mom because she has trances where she'll just leave her kids and let them live and survive for themselves, I believe mother's should not be like that. In every story, there is usually a happy ending, so the ending to this conflict would be believed to that she is the one who survives the hunger games. this book makes me think about the future and what might happened. It makes me question if this is how the future is going to be like, exactly like this book. What i like about the book so far is that it gives a lot of characteristics to the characters. The author describes them so well that i can imagine how they look like in my head, how they talk, and their traits. So far, i'm honestly really loving this book and usually I'm not the type of person to read these kind of books.
