Book Title: The Pact
Read Journal: Writing Challenge- Imitation
It was around the Christmas season, so Melanie knew it was time to go shopping for gifts to give to the family and friends. she was strolling through the mall, when a pair of jade earrings appeared. She just knew Emily would love that. Two hundred dollars worth, but it was worth it for Emily since she's been working so hard at school. During her stroll in the local arts and crafts store, she bumped into a fifty dollar paintbrush set and instantly she thought of Emily. Once it came to Christmas day, Michael and Melanie went to open the gifts under the tree. Talking to herself, she opened Emily's gifts and said, " Emily you would just love these new jade earrings I got for you, you'd look amazing with them!" Quickly, Michael shot a glare at Melanie and loudly asked her, " What are you doing Melanie, Emily is dead and you know that!" Instantly Melanie's eyes filled with tears and Michael came by her side and held her and soothingly said, "Emily is gone honey, we both have to accept that."

Book Title: The Pact
Read Journal: Question
The section i read just recently was about Chris Harte's beginning life in jail. The story flashes back on when Chris and Emily first make love. And it also talks about how Emily was raped when she was a little girl.
What does the story make you think about and why?
This story makes me frightened because of how Emily gets raped. It just makes me think about if i were to be raped. Emily then was only nine, and being that small I surely wouldn't know what to do. The way that she was raped, which I don't want to describe, makes me want to vomit and cry. It makes me question, why a grown up man would want to touch a nine year old like that? Raping around the world, I believe, are just cruel. These people who rape innocent children or adults should be jailed and even persecuted for life.
What do you like or not like about the story? Why?
I don't like the fact that Emily kept a lot of secrets to her boyfriend and not being honest to him, but instead suicidal and such. She should've told him that she didn't want to have sex because of rape. She never even told him she was raped. I can't believe he thought she was crying for joy but really, she was scared because all she could think about was the rape that happened to her as a child. I believe Chris had a right to know.Emily let him have sex with her because she knew that it was for love, not for the joy of sex.
