quotation- The Pact

My quotation from the book, The Pact, is on page 54 where it says, "Tears slowly running down his face, James stepped behind the dog, so quiet and so familiar that Charlie did not even turn around, and lifting the rifle, he shot the dog from the back of the head." In this book, the meaning is that though Charlie, the dog, was sick, he did this to keep him from suffering a painful life that James knew would end in death anyways.

Universal, I think this means you got to let something go for the better of it, even though you want it to stay. In the story, James loved that dog, it has been in his life for quite a few years now. His sickness, no matter how hard the vets tried, could not be cured and James knew the dog would die. His wife though, did not want to put the dog to sleep, she cared too much about the dog that she was selfish into letting him stay longer with his sufferings so she could still be with him. James, although he loved the dog too, knew it was the right thing to do, to shoot the dog so he'd feel no pain and die in peace. Plus, the dog died happy because he was with the person he loved most and doing what he loved most, hunting for animals. It's the same when you're in love, you care enough to do things that hurt you to make the other person happy. so, if your girlfriend loves another guy, the boyfriend should let go of her because if he loved her he should want her to be happy. So to me, I think that's what the quote means.

Imitation:

Life was hard and rough. Emily and Chris were fighting frequently but Chris had no idea of why so. Chris, trying to help Emily calm down, was frustrated. Then out of the blue, Emily whispered, "Let's die together." So they planned it. They planned a date,time, and place. And because Chris loved Emily more than anything, he went along with the plan because in the end it was her that he wanted. Chris would do anything for Emily. Emily said she wanted the suicide to be at the carnival, where they shared memories and made love to each other for the first time. He went along with anything Emily said. Emily wanted this, but all she could tell Chris was that life was not perfect and that she wished everything could change. Chris was clueless, he wanted to know, but she just wouldn't. He tried and tried to convince her out of it, but in the end he went along with her idea of death because he know he could never find out.

Question- Dear John

In summary of the sixty pages I have just recently read John falls in love with Savannah and Savannah falls in love with John in a short period of time. John has to leave to the war and Savannah and him exchange letters while he is in the war. During his leaves, their time apart has caused distance in their relationship and for right now she wrote him a letter saying she fell in love with someone else.

Question 1: Why do the characters in the book do what they do?
I think Savannah fell in love with someone else because they've been apart for so long. What is she to do? Mope around and wait for him to come home? she's been waiting for him to come home for almost three years now since he's been in the war. Savannah wants to be happy so she occupies herself while waiting for him, but in the midst of it all, she found someone who made her feel the way he made her feel. I don't think she meant for that to happen but it just did because that's how she tried to occupy herself and now she has found somebody who was going to be there for her everyday while he couldn't.

Question 2: How do you think the story will end?
I think, as in most books, that there will a happily ever after. Though i don't think they will get back together, I think that he will eventually get over it and they will become friends in the end. I also think that John will probably find someone new too and everything will eventually be okay.

Quotation- Dear John

A quote from the book Dear John would be, "My dad was uninterested in their value. His eyes would dart away whenever I mentioned it, and I soon remembered what I'd somehow forgotten: that to my dad, the pursuit of the coins was far more interesting than the coins themselves,..." This quote is important to the story because his autistic dad's favorite hobby was to collect coins, a hobby wouldn't be a hobby if he did it for money. His dad didn't like the idea of how valuable his coin collection was as long as it made him happy. The universal meaning of this quote is, in my thinking, to live your life to the fullest and not for money or whatever you need. That you shouldn't care what you're doing as long as it makes you happy. You should do something that you enjoy, for example a job, don't become a doctor just for the money while you can't stand being around people or blood. Or marry someone you love not because they are pretty or can buy you nice things. This is what the quote is trying to tell and teach us, you shouldn't be interested if it is just for the money.
